Cambodia is a country that follows Buddhism but it also has a history of Hinduism. The famous temple of Angkor Wat was originally constructed by Hindus and it was dedicated to Lord Vishnu, later it was transformed into Buddhist Temple at the end of 12th Century. Along with having a rich Buddhist culture, it also has hints of Indian Culture. Cambodia has a very rich history be it ancient or modern, as we all know the the time of Vietnam war. We all remember Cambodia from our history textbooks but never really thought of visiting the place. It may not be an exotic place to visit all together but the history of the monuments will surely amaze you. This post involves a brief about all of the following places in Cambodia that are a must visit :

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

The magnificent temple of Angkor Wat is built upon water and is supported by sub-terrain water. It is surrounded by massive waterways. Surviving over uncountable invasions and modern wars it still stands taking people’s breaths away. Stunning Cambodia’s golden age temple was built in 35 Years. Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument of the World. It is basically a complex of temples. The temple holds great significance to the country as it is the symbol of Cambodia and also appears on their national Flag. It has a lot of ancient history to it. The temple was built during Khmer Empire by Khmer King Suryavarman in early 12th Century in honor of Lord Vishnu while rest other temples were dedicated to Shaiva tradition. The temple shows the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It is admired for its architectural style and harmony and with its extensive bas-reliefs and with the devatas inscribed in the wall it makes to the top temples in the world.



Ta Prohm Temple, Cambodia

The Ta Prohm Temple is yet another temple of Cambodia, basically ruins of the temple. It was built 1000 years ago in 1186, after Angkor Wat by Jayavarman VII. It was originally known as Raja Vihar/ The Royal Monastery. It was dedicated to Buddhist Personification of Wisdom. This massive temple was home to hundreds and thousands of people. 300 years later the society collapsed and the temple was consumed by nature’s disasters. The people abandoned the place and 500 years later it re-originated from the dense rain forests of Cambodia. It isn’t the most impressive ruin of the world and is more human scale. It looks like a place merged with nature. The trees there have merged with the carved rocks which have created new structures.


Chong Kneas, Cambodia

Chong Kneas is famous for its Floating Village. Cambodia is mostly built on water that explains this village. This village has everything from floating school to floating crocodile farm, markets, orphanage etc. The life here is in water. People have their homes made up on boats. The sunset view is amazing through the waters and in all, it is amazing meeting people there and having to hear the stories.



Mebon temple, Cambodia

Mebon Temple was built in 10th century by king Rajendravarman of Khmer empire just like most of the monuments in Cambodia. The temple was dedicated to Hindu god Lord Shiva and honors his parents. The sculptures built in this temple are unique and exceptional like the two-meter-high free-standing stone elephants. A lot of Hindu mythological history is carved out on the walls of the temple and the work is done with utter neatness and looks very elegant.



Kbal Spean, Cambodia

Kbal Spean is an Angkorian era archaeological site on the southwest slopes of the Kulen Hills. The site is situated on the sites of Stung Kbal Spean River .Thousands of Lingas ancient cravings are laid out on the river bedrocks. It is a pleasant view with river flowing through inscribed huge rocks. It is commonly known as “Valley of 1000 Lingas”. The inscriptions are dominated by Hindu mythological gods Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Lakshmi, Rama and Hanuman etc.


Pub Street, Cambodia

After so much of history it is time for some fun. Pub street is known for it’s crazy parties and amazing beer for as cheap as 0.50$. Now that sounds like a good news. Pub Street is one of the best party places of south east Asia. It is a long road with pubs, bars, restaurants, lounges basically everything a party animal can ask for. People gather their at evening and the party goes on till sunrise. It is such an amazing place. You meet lots and lots of people from different backgrounds. And this is once in a life experience my friend.
